Annie

In May, Mia auditioned for the part of "Pepper", the bully orphan, in our church theater group's production of Annie.  It quickly became a family affair, as I was asked last minute to lead set painting workshops during our summer week intensive, and Carrie was asked to cartoon the entire cast (70) in vintage "Annie" comic style for posters on the set, as well as be on crew.  Tonight is opening night, and as we all look forward to the break from long days and late night rehearsals in two weeks, we will also be a little sad the fun is over.  From day one of camp (a week of 8 hour days full of blocking, set work, theater workshops, culture workshops, etc) this cast of kids, ages 11-19, have worked together and encouraged each other in ways I have seldom seen. My girls come out of rehearsals beaming through their exhausted bodies.  This show is to be a benefit for a local foster ministry, and the kids have dived in head first with an amazing amount of energy, devotion, and passion to make it the best show they can produce. It will not disappoint!  I am so proud to be associated with this production and the people involved. They have exemplified Christ's love for one another and those struggling to find "a home".  May God bless those on stage and in the audience, and continue the great work He started back in May!

Togetherness

This is the word that comes to my mind first when I think of these dear family friends.  We've known them for years through school co-ops and and family Bible study. They are a beautiful family!

Dance 2011

I had the pleasure of taking rehearsal photos for my girls' dance studio last week.  I'm so thankful to God for giving me this avenue to not only to exercise my own passion, but to stay involved in my kids' passions as well!
Here are just a few from the shoot.  You can see the rest in this link:

The Dunns

Spent Saturday afternoon at the park with a local family.  Their four kids are all under 7 - GREAT practice for me!  The only things on their minds were running, throwing rocks in the lake, running, climbing on the rocks, running, and more running.  Oh, to have that energy!  I decided that instead of making them frustrated by sitting and posing, that I would let them take the lead (my favorite method anyway) and just try and keep up!  The result was kids in their element, although I did bring out my secret weapon to reel them in for just a little bit - BUBBLES!
